The Merit Of Ramadhan



  • The Prophet (peace be upon hiss) was reported to have said that "when Ramadhan comes, the gets of Paradise was opened." [2] The month of Ramadhan is a great opportunity for are to do the deeds that could bring him/her closer to Paradise.

  • Fasting in Ramadhan is also an opportunity to atone for one's sins. Abu Hurayrah quoted the Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying , "who ever fast  during the month of Ramadhan out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah will have all of his previous sin's forgiven."[3]
  • Fasting also provide protection from evil for those who sincerely fast. Allah's messenger (peace be upon him) was reported to have said, "Fasting is a sheild."[4]
  • Allah has a special reward which He personally gives one who fasts furthfully. Abu Hurayrah related that the Prophet  (peace be upon him) quoted Allah as saying , "Every act of Adam's descendants is for themselves, except fasting. It is meant for me alone, and I alone will give the reward for it."[5]
  • Perhaps the greatest and most unique merit of Ramadhan lies in the fact that the Quran, which is the last and only unchanged book of Divine Guidance remaining in the world , was revealed during this month. Allah states :
The month of Ramadhan is the one in which the Quran was sent down as a (pure source of) guidance for man kind. In it are clear teachngs showing the Right way and the Criterian (for judging truth and false hood)".

Benefit Of Fasting

HEALTH BENEFITS. . .

  1. Giving rest to digestive system 
  • Ramadhan is the period of rest for the digestive system, which is responsible for the metabolism process of food. Consequently, the liver also takes rest as it is the main factory of food metabolism.  


     2.   Moderate loss of weight

  • During fasting, the cosumption of sugars decrease, and so does the level of sugar in blood. This makes the body rely on providing the needed calories for metabolism by burning sugar stored in the body. Glycogen stored in the liver, and fats in tissue are decomposed and transferred into calories and energy needed by the body. This result in moderate shortage of body weight. Therefore, fasting is considered of great value for over weight persons and stable non-insulin diabetes.
     3.   Decrease of cholesterol level in blood.


  • Several studies proved that cholesterol level in blood during fasting, as well as the rule of precipitating on the walls of arteries has decreased. This in turn reduces the chances of cardiac and cerebrosular accidents, and prevents the raise of hypertension, shortage of fats in blood helps reduce stones of gall and choledocus. The Prophet (PBUH) said : "Fast! you'll be healthy". 
   4. Boost your brain

  • A study carried out by scientist in the USA found that mental focus achieved during Ramadhan increases the level of brain-derieved neurotrophic factor, which causes the body to produce more brain ceels, thus improving brain function.


Educational and Psychological Benefits

  • Fasting Ramadhan is useful as it has a restraining power over the soul's whimsies and an urge to abandon bad habits, specially when the smoker is obliged to abstain from smoking evev if for temporary period, on the hope such abandon wil permanent. This also apply to drinking  to much coffee and tea. The psychological benefit are nurerous. The fasting person feel complacent, attains rental and psychological rest, retains from all that disturbs the integnity of his fasting, and maintains the proper behavior controls, that all reflect positively on the general community. The Prophet said ; "Fasting is restraining. When anyone of you fasting, he should retrain from absence language or any acts of ignorance. And if anyone slanders him or quarrels with him, he should say : "I am fasting." Several student revealed that crime rate in Islamic countries decrease during Ramadhan.

FAST BREAKERS


  • Sexual intercourse during the time of day for fasting. Will ful violation of fast by such practice requires the fast of sixty consecutive days in order to make up for the day in which the intercourse took place.
  • Intentionally ejaculating. Unintentional ejaculation do not break the fast.
  •  Eating, drinking, smoking or taking any food substitutes such as receiving blood, glucose or I.V. substance by intention by knowing you should be fasting. If done without remembering you are fasting, then it would not count as breaking the fast. If such an act was prescribed for an essential reason, the fast would be consider broken but would only require one day for each day missed.
  • Vomiting on purpose without necessity.
  • Menstrual bleeding.
